1) Insulate the floor
2) Build up mass in the walls by adding another layer of dry wall
3) Finish the ceiling, walls and floors with sound absorbent materials such as cork, rubber tile, or carpeting.4) Cover windows with heavy drapes another form of movable insulation.
5) If the noise is coming outside like a nearby highway, consider landscaping with shrubbery or fences to create a sound buffer.
